The Lady 'Stangs volleyball team came out with a bang to defeat the visiting St. Edward's Rams in three games (30-14, 30-24, 30-12). The win boosts the Mustangs to 14-4 overall and 4-1 in conference, while the Rams fall to 5-13, 2-2.
WNMU dominated the first set with a .594 hitting percentage, scoring 20 kills in 32 attempts. The second set SEU made a rally with the help of great defense and poor hitting by the 'Stangs. The third started off back and forth but by the seventh point Western never looked back, dominating the Rams and ending the match.
Leading the Mustangs offensively was junior Stephanie Higgins (Biggsville, IL/) with an amazing 21 kills, followed by Jennifer Snowbarger (Oskaloosa, IA/Oskaloosa High School) with 9. Courtney Heiser (Tempe, AZ/Marcos de Niza High School) continued her ways with 34 assists and 5 serving aces.
Defensively for WNMU, freshman Jessica Lindgren (Albuquerque, NM/Cibola High School) collected a game high of 12 digs, followed by Higgins and Melanie Tang (Honolulu, HI/Mary Knoll High School) who each had 8.
Both teams will be back in action tomorrow, Saturday, October 1, at 2 p.m. in the Mustang Filedhouse.
